Lisbon in One Day: The Perfect Itinerary for First-Time Visitors

So You Only Have One Day in Lisbon…

Wow, what a pity to only have one day in Lisbon. But if it must be… let’s make it count!

Lisbon is full of history, colourful buildings, tasty food, and amazing views. It’s hard to see it all in one day, but with a tuk tuk tour, you can see a lot without getting too tired. Let’s go!

Want to skip the hills and see it all in a day? Book your tuk tuk now.

Why a Tuk Tuk Tour is a Smart Choice

Lisbon is hilly. Really hilly. Walking everywhere takes time and energy. Buses can’t go down the tiny streets. A tuk tuk is fast, fun, and can get into small places that other vehicles can’t.

Tuk tuk perks:

  • Zoom up steep hills with no sweat
  • Stop wherever you want for photos
  • Get picked up at your hotel
  • See hidden spots most tourists miss
  • Learn cool stories from your local guide

The Best One-Day Itinerary by Tuk Tuk

Here’s a mix of our guide’s local tips and your must-see Lisbon spots:

A traditional Portuguese pastel de nata custard tart served with a cup of espresso on ceramic tiles.

Start with coffee & tarts

9:00 AM – Start Your Day
Grab coffee and breakfast in Luís de Camões Square. Order a “bica” (Portuguese espresso) at A Brasileira Café. Then, stop by Manteigaria nearby for a fresh custard tart (pastel de nata).

See old ruins & secret rooftops

10:00 AM – Explore Carmo and Baixa
Walk up to the Carmo ruins—an open-air church with no roof! Then go against the grain and walk down the Santa Justa Elevator from the top. (Psst… there’s a free level for views!)

Explore downtown Lisbon

11:00 AM – Downtown Sights

  • Head through the grand Arco da Rua Augusta. Yes, you can now go to the top! Last time I was there, tickets were just €2.
  • Take in the huge Praça do Comércio square and the view of the river.

Snack break: Eat like a local

12:00 PM – Snack Break
Walk back up and grab a bifana (Portuguese pork sandwich) from Sr. Afonso.
Eat two—you’ve earned it after all that walking!

Don’t miss Alfama’s winding streets

1:00 PM – Alfama Adventures

  • Get lost in the maze of Alfama.
  • Look for the 1,000-year-old wall.
  • Try Ginja (a cherry drink).
  • Visit the Se Cathedral.

Fado singer wearing a traditional black lace veil and ornate earrings, lit dramatically on stage in Lisbon.

Listen to Fado & enjoy the views

2:30 PM – Fado & Views

  • Catch a Fado show at a museum or live at my fav spot
  • Head up to a rooftop bar or miradouro (viewpoint) for sunset views and epic photos

Bonus stop: Belém for history + dessert

4:00 PM – Optional Belém Add-On
Got time? Head to Belém to see:

  • Jerónimos Monastery
  • Belém Tower
  • Monument to the Discoveries

And of course… stop at Pastéis de Belém for another (yes, another!) custard tart.

Sunset over the Tagus River in Lisbon with the 25 de Abril Bridge and Cristo Rei statue in the distance.

Sunset wrap-up
